      Its quite ok, if you ask me. I use a three meters long HDMI cable and it does not bug me while playing :)
      At first I wanted all ports at the top, but it didn't fit :(

      @swk I thought it says it right on the screen while you are doing it. It's also in the documentation that you should read.

      Hey so I really only made an account to respond to this query. The easiest way to deal with this is finding the .cfg file for the PISNES emulator. PISNES searches for a different cfg file than the built in emulator (so you need to manually edit it for each different controller) where as the included emulators reference the cfg file you set up when you mapped your controller the first time you connected.

      Remember when you had to first set up your controller? You need to know what each button corresponds to Go to the MAIN MENU and hit Configure Input Notice that every time you hit a key while mapping a number appears? You'll want to make note of what number each key is Connect to your Raspberry Pie via SFTP and find opt/retropie/configs/snes Notice there is a file in the directory named retroarch.cfg - that's file contains data helping built in emulators You want to open snes9x.cfg (this is what PISNES uses) with a text editor Scroll Down until you see this!
      [Joystick]
      A_1=1
      B_1=0
      X_1=3
      Y_1=2
      L_1=4
      R_1=5
      START_1=7
      SELECT_1=6
      QUIT=99
      ACCEL=98
      QLOAD=10
      QSAVE=9
      #Joystick axis
      JA_LR=0
      JA_UD=1
      #Joystick DPAD buttons
      LEFT_1=11
      RIGHT_1=12
      UP_1=13
      DOWN_1=14
      #player 2 button configuration
      A_2=1
      B_2=0
      X_2=3
      Y_2=2
      L_2=4
      R_2=5
      START_2=7
      SELECT_2=6
      #Joystick axis
      JA_LR_2=0
      JA_UD_2=1
      #Joystick DPAD buttons
      LEFT_2=11
      RIGHT_2=12
      UP_2=13
      DOWN_2=14

      - These are the original values! Values corresponding to keys will change depending on what controller you are using

      Change each value to the appropriate value of the corresponding key you want (the info from step 1)

      Profit

      @ortsac so I tried switching with switched off console, same result. Checked the connection three times now. Should be working but it is not.

      Maybe the controllers are not working properly. I cleaned them 1 month ago and I noticed that the rubber pads are not the best. There are stripes on the connection pad. I tried to take a picture of that.
      rubber pad
      I also measured the resistance of these, and it is >60 Ohms. Should be way lower than that right?

      @TVsIan Glad to hear that it is working for you now!

      @ortsac The driver polls the terminal pins on the player 2 side of the board and that's really all: If the SNES controllers are not connected to those specific pins, no data can be read out.

      I will prepare a schematic for that part of the ControlBlock soon. Basically, the driver communicates with the two GPIO expander components on the ControlBlock via SPI. Nothing more fancy happens there.

      @DarkWolf said in Snes Ball Dpad:

      @skezza I don't even know what a "ball dpad" is (even google doesn't know that)? Or do you mean a regular dpad?

      Sorry. The snes dpad is like a + that sits on top of a ball which acts like a pivot. This is why the dpad feels so good on an original snes + original controller. Unfortunately, my usb SNES copy, I've been having problems with the dpad. Turns out its pivoting on a post/stick rather than a ball. Not only does this reduce the accuracy but it seems to cause weird accidental presses. What's more, it's a common theme among aftermarket usb controllers.

      I'm going to do a tear down thread tomorrow to show what I mean but it's a real shame because the rest of the controller is ok.

      Damn, I don't want to strip the wires to my SNES controllers or take apart my console to make a panel.

      I'll be using an HD CRT TV. It'd be if a more straightforward adapter was invented. But oh well.

      Thanks for the help.

      @batesman hi, i have been having the same problems with my 8bitdo. Did you ever manage to fix the problem? I just got my 8bitdo today and while i was playing super mario kart it just steered me into a wall on a few occasions, then started resetting the game or just going back to the game list menu. worked 100% ok playing golden axe 3 for megadrive so only noticed it in the snes emulator.

      I think I found my issue. Apparently it make a difference as to which order you plug in the controllers to the USB hub - under normal conditions, I had the far left slot open, the second slot for my keyboard dongle and then the controllers plugged into the 2 ports on the far right.

      When I was testing my new image, I had the bottom opened up and the unit was upside down. I plugged everything in the same as before, except in reverse (since it was upside down). As soon as I rearranged the plugs, all worked as usual.

      @TheJullasicFox

      If you had read it, you would in the first instance post the information requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first so that help can be offered. You will also notice that in this instructional thread it states "please create a new topic and add the following relevant information so that we can help narrow down the cause of your issue." You have not done this so help cannot be offered.

      If you are thinking "why not?" at this stage then consider your request "I tried configuring it, but it won't even detect at all HELP!!!". It's a very strange question. What version of retropie? What Emulator? What did you "try" to do? What do you want help with? Your configs? Where are they?

      Finally, you say you read it? In the instructional thread, it clearly states "Make sure your topic title summarises the issue - do not use topic titles like "HELP ME". A better title would be "USB Controller will not control Kodi after update" - if that is what you are actually having an issue with - it's not at all clear. What is Kodi's update? Can you use the controller in emulationstation? What version of Kodi are you referring to? etc. etc. etc.

      This is so that others may search for your problem. So, did you read it? No. By now, help could have been offered but nobody knows what you did or what you tried. Hopefully, my explantion of how best to get fast help will assist you in future posts.
